Apitane Syrup is a combination medicine used to treat loss of appetite. It is an effective appetite stimulant. Apitane Syrup is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. Apitane Syrup is a combination of three medicines: Cyproheptadine, tricholine citrate, and sorbitol, which revives appetite. Cyproheptadine is an appetite-stimulant. It works by reducing the effect of a chemical messenger (serotonin) in the hypothalamus, a part of the brain which regulates appetite. Tricholine citrate is a bile acid binding agent which removes bile acids from the body. The liver then produces more bile acids using cholesterol as a result of which cholesterol level is lowered. Sorbitol acts as a syrup base and also as an osmotic laxative to relieve constipation.
Does Apitane Syrup cause dry mouth?
Yes, using Apitane Syrup can lead to dryness in the mouth. To alleviate this side effect, drink plenty of water throughout the day and keep a bottle of water by your bed at night. You may also use lip balm if your lips are also dry.
Can Apitane Syrup cause dizziness?
Yes, some people who take Apitane Syrup experience dizziness (feeling faint, weak, unsteady, or lightheaded). If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, it's important to rest for a short while and resume your activities when you feel better. Do not drive or operate machinery until your symptoms improve.
