Apitane Syrup is a combination medicine used to treat loss of appetite. It is an effective appetite stimulant. Apitane Syrup is a combination of three medicines: Cyproheptadine, tricholine citrate, and sorbitol, which revives appetite. Cyproheptadine is an appetite-stimulant. It works by reducing the effect of a chemical messenger (serotonin) in the hypothalamus, a part of the brain which regulates appetite. Tricholine citrate is a bile acid binding agent which removes bile acids from the body. The liver then produces more bile acids using cholesterol as a result of which cholesterol level is lowered. Sorbitol acts as a syrup base and also as an osmotic laxative to relieve constipation.
Does Apitane Syrup cause dry mouth?
Yes, using Apitane Syrup can lead to dryness in the mouth. To alleviate this side effect, drink plenty of water throughout the day and keep a bottle of water by your bed at night. You may also use lip balm if your lips are also dry.
