Xarocad 10mg Tablet is an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots, reducing the risk of stroke and heart attack. Xarocad 10mg Tablet is commonly used in patients with irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) to prevent clot formation. It also reduces the risk of getting clots in people who have undergone knee or hip replacement surgeries. It may be taken with or without food. Take it at the same time each day for maximum benefits. You may need to take this medicine for many years, even for life in some cases. Do not stop taking it or change the dose without guidance from your doctor. It could quickly put you more at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or thrombosis (formation of a blood clot within a blood vessel). You can reduce your risk of having a blood clot by making changes to your lifestyle, such as not smoking, eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and losing weight if you need to. The most common side effect of Xarocad 10mg Tablet is bleeding more easily than normal, for example, having nosebleeds or bruising. If you experience any symptoms, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney or liver problems, if you are currently bleeding or if you are taking other medicines to reduce blood clotting. You should not breastfeed while using this medicine. Unlike other anticoagulants, a regular blood test (PT-INR) is not required while taking this medicine.
Xarocad 10mg Tablet is a novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC). It works by stopping a clotting factor called factor Xa from working. This helps prevent the formation of blood clots in the body.
What are the side effects of Xarocad 10mg Tablet?
The most common side effects of Xarocad 10mg Tablet include prolonged or excessive bleeding, shortness of breath (which may indicate bleeding), fatigue, weakness, paleness, dizziness, headache, and unexplained swelling. Other side effects can be severe skin and allergic reactions, bruising, coughing up blood, bleeding from the skin or under the skin, and swelling in limbs. Using Xarocad 10mg Tablet may increase bilirubin levels and decrease platelet count. Some individuals may experience fainting spells, a faster heartbeat, and dry mouth. If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
Is Xarocad 10mg Tablet a blood thinner?
Yes, Xarocad 10mg Tablet is a blood thinner. It works by preventing blood from clotting within the blood vessels. It also prevents blood clots from recurring in the blood vessels. It may be prescribed to treat blood clots in the veins of the legs and in the blood vessels of the lungs.
Is Xarocad 10mg Tablet dangerous?
Xarocad 10mg Tablet has many beneficial effects, but it may cause you to bleed more than usual due to its effect on clotting. Sometimes it can lead to serious bleeding which may be life-threatening and require urgent medical attention. This risk is higher in individuals taking other blood-thinning medications simultaneously. If you experience any bleeding, consult your doctor immediately.
What foods should you avoid if you are on blood thinners?
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be avoided while taking Xarocad 10mg Tablet. Grapefruits contain compounds that slow down the metabolism of Xarocad 10mg Tablet and increase its activity, leading to increased bleeding. In contrast, if you are taking other blood thinners like warfarin, avoid foods that increase vitamin K or increase clotting. Examples include spinach, brussels sprouts, mustard greens, broccoli, asparagus, and green tea. However, the use of these foods is not restricted with Xarocad 10mg Tablet.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Xarocad 10mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
