Fexo-AM Tablet SR is a combination medicine used in the prevention of asthma. It relieves allergy symptoms such as runny nose, stuffy nose, sneezing, watery eyes and congestion or stuffiness. Fexo-AM Tablet SR is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect or be affected by this medicine.
Fexo-AM Tablet SR is a combination of three medicines: Montelukast, Fexofenadine and Acebrophylline. Montelukast is a leukotriene antagonist. It works by blocking the action of leukotriene, a chemical messenger. This reduces inflammation in the airways and nose and improves symptoms of allergies. Fexofenadine is an antiallergic which relieves symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Acebrophylline is a mucolytic which thins and loosens mucus (phlegm) making it easier to cough out.
What should be avoided while taking Fexo-AM Tablet SR?
Do not consume Fexo-AM Tablet SR with fruit juices (such as apple, orange, or grapefruit) as these might decrease its effectiveness. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Fexo-AM Tablet SR. Alcohol may worsen drowsiness or sleepiness caused by Fexo-AM Tablet SR.
Can I stop Fexo-AM Tablet SR when my symptoms are relieved?
No, Fexo-AM Tablet SR should be continued as directed by the doctor. If you experience any problems while taking Fexo-AM Tablet SR, inform your doctor immediately.
Can the use of Fexo-AM Tablet SR cause dizziness?
Yes, some patients may experience dizziness (feeling faint, weak, unsteady, or lightheaded) while using Fexo-AM Tablet SR. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, it is advisable to rest until symptoms subside.
Will a higher than the recommended dose of Fexo-AM Tablet SR be more effective?
No, taking a higher dose of Fexo-AM Tablet SR will not make it more effective. In fact, exceeding the prescribed dosage may lead to increased side effects. If symptoms worsen, consult your doctor for re-evaluation.
What are the instructions for the storage and disposal of Fexo-AM Tablet SR?
Store Fexo-AM Tablet SR in its original container, tightly sealed. Follow the storage instructions on the packaging or label provided. Dispose of any unused medication properly to prevent ingestion by pets, children, or other individuals.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Fexo-AM Tablet SR may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
- You have been prescribed Fexo-AM Tablet SR for prevention of asthma.
- Take it at the same time each day, preferably in the evening after food.
- Do not take it with any fruit juices (such as apple, orange or grapefruit) as they might make the drug less effective.
- It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Use your rescue inhaler to control sudden difficulty in breathing.
- Your doctor may take regular blood test to monitor the level of drug in your body.
- Avoid using antacids within 30 minutes of taking this medicine. It can make it harder for your body to absorb this medication.
- Notify your doctor if you smoke or have a viral infection. Your dose may need to be adjusted.
- Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor even if you feel better.
