Cymex Syrup is a combination of three medicines: Cyproheptadine, tricholine citrate and sorbitol, which revives appetite. Cyproheptadine is an appetite-stimulant. It works by reducing the effect of a chemical messenger (serotonin) in the hypothalamus a part of the brain which regulates appetite. Tricholine citrate is a bile acid binding agent which removes bile acids from the body. The liver then produces more bile acids using cholesterol as a result of which cholesterol level is lowered. Sorbitol acts as a syrup base and also as an osmotic laxative to relieve constipation.
What are some potential side effects of taking Cymex Syrup?
Cymex Syrup may cause dry mouth in some patients. To manage this, drink plenty of water throughout the day and keep some by your bed at night. You can also use lip balm if your lips become dry.
