Cipliv Syrup is a combination medicine used to treat loss of appetite. It is an effective appetite stimulant. Cipliv Syrup is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect or be affected by this medicine.
Cipliv Syrup is a combination of three medicines: Cyproheptadine, tricholine citrate and sorbitol which revives appetite. Cyproheptadine is an appetite-stimulant. It works by reducing the effect of a chemical messenger (serotonin) in the hypothalamus a part of the brain which regulates appetite. Tricholine citrate is a bile acid binding agent which removes bile acids from the body. The liver then produces more bile acids using cholesterol as a result of which cholesterol level is lowered. Sorbitol acts as a syrup base and also as an osmotic laxative to relieve constipation.
Can the use of Cipliv Syrup cause dryness in mouth?
Yes, using Cipliv Syrup can cause dry mouth. If you experience dry mouth, drinking plenty of water is recommended. Take regular sips throughout the day and keep a glass of water by your bed at night. You may use lip balm if your lips are also dry.
Can the use of Cipliv Syrup cause dizziness?
Yes, using Cipliv Syrup can cause dizziness (feeling faint, weak, unsteady or lightheaded) in some patients. If you experience dizziness or lightheadedness, it is recommended to rest and resume activities once you feel better. Avoid driving or operating machinery until feeling fully normal.
What is the recommended storage condition for Cipliv Syrup?
Store this medicine in its original container or pack, tightly closed. Follow the instructions on the package label regarding storage and disposal. Do not consume any unused medicine as it may be dangerous.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Cipliv Syrup may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
