Vomilop Syrup is a medicine given to children to help treat nausea and vomiting. It is mainly given to treat nausea and vomiting associated with surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and stomach/intestinal infection. Vomilop Syrup may be given before or after meals. To control vomiting caused due to chemotherapy, give this medicine to your child 30 minutes before the procedure. Give it 1 to 2 hours before a radiotherapy session and 1 hour before surgery to prevent your child from vomiting post these procedures. If your child expels out the medicine within 30 minutes of the intake, help your child calm down and repeat the dose. Do not double the dose if it is already time for the next dose. Vomilop Syrup may cause some temporary side effects such as headache, constipation, diarrhea, and fatigue. These side effects usually subside once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. In case these side effects persist or become bothersome, do reach out to the doctor on a priority basis.
During radiotherapy, chemotherapy, abdominal infection, or any major surgeries, the dead cells in the body start releasing a chemical called serotonin directly into the blood. Later, this stimulates special centers in the body that are responsible for inducing vomiting in your child. Giving Vomilop Syrup just before the procedure helps block the effect of this chemical on vomiting centers of the brain and prevents vomiting.
What is Vomilop Syrup used for?
Vomilop Syrup is typically administered before major surgical procedures or chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions. It helps prevent vomiting in these situations. It can also be prescribed to address stomach-related vomiting issues, with the doctor recommending a few days' dosage depending on the severity of the condition. Always follow the recommended dosage for best results.
What if my child accidentally takes too much Vomilop Syrup?
While accidental overdose is unlikely to cause severe harm, it's crucial to inform your child's doctor immediately. Excessive Vomilop Syrup intake can lead to serious side effects like excessive drowsiness, agitation, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, flushing, dilated pupils, sweating, involuntary muscle spasms, uncontrolled eye movements, heightened reflexes, and seizures (collectively known as serotonin syndrome). Seek medical attention promptly if these symptoms appear.
How should Vomilop Syrup be stored?
Store Vomilop Syrup at room temperature in a dry, cool location, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Ensure that all medications are kept out of children's reach and sight to prevent accidental ingestion.
What are the necessary precautions when taking Vomilop Syrup?
It is generally advised not to administer Vomilop Syrup with certain types of medicines, including antidepressants, apomorphine, anti-migraine medications, painkillers, heart medications, and antibiotics like linezolid. However, consult your child's doctor for a comprehensive evaluation of potential interactions. Provide your child's complete medical history to the doctor and follow their guidance.
In which conditions should I seek immediate medical attention?
Call your child's doctor immediately if they experience symptoms of serotonin syndrome, including: irregular heartbeat, green-colored vomiting, difficulty passing gas, pale or dark colored urine, restlessness, and insomnia.
Can I administer Vomilop Syrup along with migraine medications?
It's crucial to consult your child's doctor before combining Vomilop Syrup with any medication for migraine treatment. Mixing these types of medicines may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Vomilop Syrup may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
