Ulcipan Injection is a medicine that reduces the amount of acid produced in your stomach. It is used for treating acid-related diseases of the stomach and intestine such as acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Ulcipan Injection is also used to prevent stress ulcers in seriously ill patients and is administered before anesthetic medication to help prevent aspiration-related complications. It belongs to a class of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). This medicine is administered into a vein by a healthcare professional and will only be given to you if your doctor thinks that an injection is more suitable for you at the moment than a tablet. The dose will depend on your underlying condition and how you respond to the medicine. Your doctor will decide the duration of treatment but you should keep on taking it as prescribed even if your symptoms disappear quickly.
Ulcipan Injection is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which in turn relieves acid-related indigestion and heartburn.
What is Ulcipan Injection used for?
Ulcipan Injection is used to treat peptic ulcers, reflux esophagitis (GERD), or heartburn. It also helps prevent stomach acid from causing pain after taking painkillers.
Can I take antacids along with Ulcipan Injection?
Yes, you can take antacids along with Ulcipan Injection. Take it 2 hours before or after you take Ulcipan Injection.
How long does it take for Ulcipan Injection to work?
You should start feeling better within 2 to 3 days. It may take up to 4 weeks for Ulcipan Injection to work properly, and you may still have some symptoms during this time.
Does Ulcipan Injection cause weight gain?
Long-term use of Ulcipan Injection may increase the risk of weight gain. This is because it helps reduce your appetite to a certain extent, which may lead to increased food consumption.
Can I take alcohol with Ulcipan Injection?
No, alcohol intake is not advised with Ulcipan Injection. Alcohol can increase stomach acid production and worsen symptoms. It should be avoided while taking this medication.
What dietary changes should I make to get relief from acidity?
Ulcipan Injection is best taken 1 hour before a meal. Try to avoid spicy and fatty foods, caffeinated drinks such as tea, coffee and cola, and alcohol.
Can I take Ulcipan Injection for a long term?
Ulcipan Injection is usually prescribed for short-term use only. However, if required for treating peptic ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES), it may be used for long-term treatment. Long-term use may increase the risk of side effects and should be discussed with your doctor.
Are painkillers safe to take along with Ulcipan Injection?
Yes, it is safe to take painkillers along with Ulcipan Injection. It helps prevent acidity associated with the intake of painkillers.
Is a single dose of Ulcipan Injection sufficient?
No, a single dose may not be sufficient. However, after taking only a few doses you may get relief from symptoms. Ulcipan Injection is usually needed only for short-term use or up to 2 weeks for heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux. If needed, it may be prescribed for long-term treatment, but consult your doctor if you don't see any improvement after 2 weeks of regular use.
What are the long term side effects of Ulcipan Injection?
Long-term use of Ulcipan Injection may lead to some adverse effects. These include low magnesium levels in your blood, leading to fatigue, confusion, dizziness, shakiness, and lightheadedness; muscle twitches or irregular heartbeats; and increased risk for fractures, stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause anemia, resulting in tiredness, weakness, and pale skin. Additionally, you may experience palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling, or difficulty walking.
Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Kindly do not self-administer.
- Avoid excessive intake of carbonated beverages/soft drinks
- Avoid citrus juices
- Avoid fried food
- Avoid caffeinated beverages like tea and coffee
- Avoid alcohol and smoking
- Avoid eating late at night or before bedtime
- Inform your doctor if you get watery diarrhea, fever or stomach pain that does not go away
- Long-term use of Ulcipan Injection can cause weak bones and a deficiency of minerals such as magnesium. Take adequate dietary intake of calcium and magnesium or their supplements as prescribed by your doctor.

Alcohol
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Ulcipan Injection.
Breastfeed
Ulcipan Injection is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Pregnancy
Ulcipan Injection may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you.
