Tofe Tablet is used to treat moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ulcerative colitis by reducing inflammation and slowing the progression of bone and joint damage. Tofe Tablet may be prescribed by itself or in combination with another medicine. The tablets can be taken with or without food and it is best to take them at the same time each day. Your dose will depend on your condition and what other medicines you are taking. You should use it as your doctor tells you to. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to because your condition could get worse. The most common side effects of Tofe Tablet include upper respiratory tract infections, headache, diarrhea, and nasopharyngitis. There are other less common side effects, some of them serious, including blood clots and tears in the stomach or intestine wall. These need urgent medical attention. If you have any worries about side effects, talk to your doctor. You may need blood tests before you are given this medicine and you should not start taking it if you have any kind of infection. Make sure you talk to your doctor before starting treatment if you have or have ever had tuberculosis, shingles, kidney or liver disease, hepatitis B or C, or blood clots in your legs or lungs. Tofe Tablet can make you more likely to get infections or may worsen any current infections so avoid contact with people who have things you might catch (such as chickenpox, measles, flu). This medicine is not suitable for children under 18 years old and you should not use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor feels the benefit is greater than the risk. Your doctor may need to examine you regularly.
Tofe Tablet is a Janus kinase inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of the enzyme Janus kinase. This decreases the activity of the immune system and inflammation associated with rheumatic diseases and ulcerative colitis.
Is it safe for me to take Tofe Tablet if I have liver problems?
If you have liver problems, it's essential to inform your doctor before starting Tofe Tablet. This is because, in some cases, Tofe Tablet may cause an increase in liver enzymes. To ensure your safety, your liver function will need to be investigated before you can start taking Tofe Tablet. While Tofe Tablet can be given to patients with mild to moderate liver function impairment, it's not recommended for those with severe liver impairment.
Does Tofe Tablet increase the risk of cancer?
Yes, Tofe Tablet may increase the risk of certain cancers (lymphoma and other cancers, including skin cancers) by affecting the immune system. If you have ever had or have any type of cancer, inform your doctor before taking Tofe Tablet.
What is Tofe Tablet used to treat?
Tofe Tablet is approved for use in people with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. This is an inflammatory disease that affects the joints. It's often prescribed when previous therapy hasn't been effective or suitable for a patient. Tofe Tablet can be used alone or together with other medications, such as methotrexate.
How long does it take for Tofe Tablet to start working?
Tofe Tablet typically takes about 2-8 weeks to start showing improvements. It may take up to 3-6 months to feel the full effects of this medication.
Do I need to have any investigations done before starting Tofe Tablet?
You may require blood tests before starting or while taking Tofe Tablet. These tests are conducted to check for a low red blood cell count (anemia), low white blood cell count (neutropenia or lymphopenia), high blood fat (cholesterol), or elevated liver enzymes. Additionally, your doctor may recommend testing for tuberculosis before starting Tofe Tablet, as it can exacerbate an existing infection.
Can Tofe Tablet cause infections?
Tofe Tablet affects the immune system, which may reduce your ability to fight off infections and increase the risk of serious infections, including tuberculosis. In some cases, these infections can be life-threatening and even fatal. It's essential to seek hospital treatment for these infections.
Can I take Tofe Tablet if I'm already taking tocilizumab?
No, you should not take Tofe Tablet with tocilizumab. Both medications affect the immune system, and taking them together can further increase the risk of infection and lead to complications.
