Syntran SB Capsule is an antifungal medication used to treat infections of the mouth, throat, vagina, and other parts of the body including fingernails and toenails. Syntran SB Capsule should be taken in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. It should be swallowed whole and can be taken with food. To get the most benefit, take this medicine at evenly spaced times and continue using it until your prescription is finished, even if your symptoms disappear after a few days. If you stop the treatment too early, the infection may return and if you miss doses, you can increase your risk of infections that are resistant to further treatment. Tell your doctor if the infection does not get better or if it gets worse.
Syntran SB Capsule is an antifungal medication. It kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane. This treats your skin infection.
What is Syntran SB Capsule used for?
Syntran SB Capsule is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton floccosum. These infections may involve ringworm, foot infection, groin/buttocks infection, persistent nail and toenail fungus, persistent candidiasis (yeast) infections of the vagina, mouth or throat, cryptococcal infection, Histoplasma, Aspergillus, and Blastomyces.
For how long do I need to take Syntran SB Capsule?
The duration of treatment with Syntran SB Capsule depends on the type and site of fungal infection as well as individual response. For example, for athlete's foot (a common fungal skin infection), the treatment may require up to 30 days. However, treatment duration for candidiasis infections in the vagina may range from 1 day to 3 days depending on the doctor’s specific instructions.
I am taking Syntran SB Capsule for nail infection but there does not seem to be any improvement. Can I stop taking it?
No, you should not stop taking Syntran SB Capsule without completing the prescribed course. Stopping prematurely could hinder complete eradication of the fungal infection. Complete treatment typically takes 6-9 months as the new nail growth may take several months after eliminating the fungus. Please do not be discouraged if there is no immediate improvement during the treatment.
Why has my doctor asked me to get blood tests done?
Your doctor might request blood tests to monitor your liver's function. It’s important to note that Syntran SB Capsule can potentially cause serious liver damage, hence the importance of monitoring.
Can I take antacid and Syntran SB Capsule together?
Syntran SB Capsule can be safely used when there is sufficient acid in the stomach. Antacids or similar medications aimed at reducing gastric acid production should be taken 2 hours after consuming Syntran SB Capsules. If you are taking antacids, take Syntran SB Capsules capsules with a beverage of cola.
What is drug resistance? Is it possible to develop resistance to Syntran SB Capsule?
Drug resistance can occur when fungi mutate in the body, rendering the medication ineffective. This phenomenon has been observed with some candida species (krusei, glabrata, and tropicalis), therefore, if you have a fungal infection caused by these species, you should not use Syntran SB Capsule. Follow the prescribed course of treatment to avoid drug resistance.
I have been on alprazolam for quite some time. Is it okay if I start taking Syntran SB Capsule now?
Yes, you can take both Alprazolam and Syntran SB Capsule together as long as the doctor is informed of this combination. Please report any side effects related to Alprazolam such as lightheadedness or drowsiness to your doctor. They may need to adjust the dosage of Alprazolam to ensure both medications are safe and effective.
My doctor prescribed Syntran SB Capsule to me but not to my friend who had a similar fungal infection because she was on dofetilide. Why is it so?
Your doctor refrained from prescribing Syntran SB Capsule to your friend due to possible interference with dofetilide. This interference could disrupt heart rhythm, potentially causing adverse effects.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Syntran SB Capsule is to be taken with food.
