Propanex 5 Tablet SR is a combination of two medicines that helps in preventing migraine. This medicine is not used for treatment of acute migraine attack. Propanex 5 Tablet SR should be taken on empty stomach but try to have it same time regularly at a fixed time preferably at night. Propanex 5 Tablet SR is a combination of two medicines: Propranolol and Flunarizine which prevents migraine. Propranolol is a beta blocker and Flunarizine is a calcium channel blocker. They work by stabilizing the reactive nerve cells and increasing the threshold to migraine activation. They also inhibit cortical spreading depression (CSD- electric waves that move across the brain and cause pain and inflammation).
In which conditions is the use of Propanex 5 Tablet SR contraindicated?
Propanex 5 Tablet SR should not be used by patients with allergy to any ingredients or excipients of this medication. This medication contains propranolol, so its use should be avoided in patients with asthma, bradycardia (slow heart rate), abnormal heart rhythms, or heart conditions like AV block or sick sinus syndrome. Additionally, the use of Propanex 5 Tablet SR should be avoided in patients with a history of depression or Parkinson's disease due to the presence of flunarizine.
