Pileum Suppository is a prescription medicine used to treat anal fissures, providing relief from redness, swelling, and itching, and decreasing pain sensation. Pileum Suppository is a combination of four medicines: Hydrocortisone, Zinc Oxide, Lidocaine, and Allantoin. It should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Wash your hands before using this medicine. It is advised to check the label for directions before use. It is for external use only. Do not use this medicine more than the recommended dose. Inform your doctor if you have known allergies from this medicine. The common side effects of this medicine include burning, irritation, itchiness, and redness at the application site.
Pileum Suppository is a combination of four medicines: Hydrocortisone, Zinc Oxide, Lidocaine, and Allantoin. Hydrocortisone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Zinc Oxide has astringent and antiseptic action. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic which works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to the brain thereby decreasing pain sensation. Allantoin is a skin protectant that moisturizes and softens the skin.
Remove the wrapper from the suppository before inserting it. Keep lying down for about 15 minutes after insertion so that the suppository does not come out before it melts.
- Do not take any other laxative along with Pileum Suppository without consulting your doctor.
- Sometimes certain medicines like iron tablets and antibiotics might make your stools hard and difficult to pass. Inform your doctor if you are taking any of them.
- Don't ignore the feeling of needing to pass stools. Some people suppress this feeling and put off going to the toilet until later. This may result in bigger and harder stools forming that are more difficult to pass later.
- A fibre rich diet (wholegrain breads and cereals, fruit and green leafy vegetables) with six to eight full glasses of water each day and daily exercise are important in maintaining healthy bowel function.
