Motivyst Tablet is used to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It works best when used along with diet and exercise. It can also be used in adults who have type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Using this medication helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death from these cardiovascular events.
Is Motivyst Tablet the same as metformin?
No, Motivyst Tablet is not the same as metformin. Motivyst Tablet is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor while metformin is a biguanide. Motivyst Tablet lowers blood sugar by causing the kidneys to get rid of more glucose in urine. On the other hand, metformin works by reducing the amount of sugar which your liver releases into your blood.
How do you take Motivyst Tablet?
Take Motivyst Tablet exactly as advised by your doctor. You should swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take your tablet with or without food. It is best to take it before the first meal of the day, preferably at the same time each day. This will help you remember to take it.
How do I know that Motivyst Tablet is working?

What types of patients are more prone to amputation?
Patients with a history of amputation are more prone to lower limb amputation. The risk is also high in patients with foot ulcers or sores, those who have or had heart disease, or patients who have or have suffered from peripheral vascular disease (narrowing of blood vessels in feet, legs, or arms causing numbness, pain, or coldness) and neuropathy (nerve damage that causes tingling, numbness, and pain, usually in your hands and feet).
Can Motivyst Tablet cause weight loss?
Motivyst Tablet usually causes a decrease in fat mass which leads to weight loss. However, this may vary from person to person depending on the doses used, whether it is being used alone or with other diabetes medications.
What are the serious side effects of Motivyst Tablet?
Serious side effects of Motivyst Tablet include ketoacidosis (increased ketones in your blood or urine), allergic reactions, sudden kidney impairment, serious urinary tract infections, and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Motivyst Tablet may also cause a serious bacterial infection that can damage tissue under the skin in the area between and around the anus and genitals (perineum) although this is rare. This medication may weaken your bones, increasing the risk of fractures, particularly in the upper arms, wrists, or hands.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush, or break it. Motivyst Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.
- Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, and anxiety.
- Monitor your blood sugar regularly while taking this medicine.
- Inform your doctor immediately if you experience constant dizziness, joint pain, cold-like symptoms, or unexplained nausea/vomiting.
- Maintaining good hygiene can help prevent fungal infections in the genital area.
- Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
- It may cause genital fungal and/or urinary tract infections (UTIs) in both females and males, so practice good hygiene.
- It may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or if you delay or miss a meal.
- It may cause dehydration or frequent urge to urinate.
- It may cause fungal infection of the vagina and/or urinary tract infection.
Alcohol
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Motivyst Tablet.
Breastfeed
Motivyst Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Pregnancy
Motivyst Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you.
