Mesanid 1200mg Tablet is an anti-inflammatory medicine used to treat a type of bowel disease known as ulcerative colitis. Mesanid 1200mg Tablet may also be used to treat another type of bowel disease known as Crohn’s ileocolitis. It should be taken with food. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for but take it exactly as your doctor prescribes. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen.
Mesanid 1200mg Tablet is an aminosalicylate. It works by suppressing the production of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause inflammation (swelling) in the intestines. This reduces ulceration, bleeding and stomach pain and prevents future flare-ups of the disease.
My symptoms have improved can I stop taking Mesanid 1200mg Tablet?
Continue to take Mesanid 1200mg Tablet as advised by the doctor, even if you feel better at the beginning of your treatment. Do not stop taking Mesanid 1200mg Tablet without consulting your doctor.
Can I drink alcohol while taking Mesanid 1200mg Tablet?
Avoid alcohol if you have ulcerative colitis, as alcohol will irritate your stomach and intestine which may worsen your condition. Although alcohol does not interfere with the working of Mesanid 1200mg Tablet, consult your doctor before taking alcohol.
Does Mesanid 1200mg Tablet cause joint pain?
Yes, Mesanid 1200mg Tablet may cause joint pain. If the pain continues and bothers you inform your doctor.
When is the best time to take Mesanid 1200mg Tablet?
Take Mesanid 1200mg Tablet exactly as directed by your doctor.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Mesanid 1200mg Tablet may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
- You have been prescribed Mesanid 1200mg Tablet for treating and lowering the symptoms of mild inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis.
- Your doctor may monitor your kidney and liver functions before you start treatment with this medicine and regularly thereafter. Inform your doctor if you have severely decreased kidney or liver function.
- Do not take Mesanid 1200mg Tablet if you are allergic to aspirin or if you have blood disorders.
- Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor.
Alcohol
Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Mesanid 1200mg Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Breastfeed
Mesanid 1200mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby. If you are taking Mesanid 1200mg Tablet, monitor the baby for diarrhea.
Pregnancy
Mesanid 1200mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
