Mefprex-P Suspension is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to reduce pain, fever, and inflammation in infants and children. Mefprex-P Suspension contains two active ingredients, Mefenamic acid and paracetamol, which belong to a common class of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It helps to lower body temperature (fever) and reduce pain and inflammation (redness and swelling) both in infants and children.
Mefprex-P Suspension works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause fever, pain, and inflammation (redness and swelling).
How much Mefprex-P Suspension should I give to my child?
Your doctor will prescribe the dosage based on your child's condition and weight. Always adhere to the prescribed dosing schedule as this ensures safe and complete recovery.
Can I change the dose of Mefprex-P Suspension for my child myself based on the severity of illness?
No, it is not recommended to alter the dosage without consulting a doctor. While an accidental increase in dose may lead to toxicity, suddenly lowering the dosage can cause symptoms to return.
Can all children be given the same dose of Mefprex-P Suspension?
No. Mefprex-P Suspension cannot be given to everyone in the same dose. The doctor decides the appropriate dose based on the child's age and weight, as the dosage varies unpredictably.
When will my child feel better?
The doctor may advise you to continue giving Mefprex-P Suspension for a few days to weeks, depending on your child's condition. You will notice that pain and fever will decrease gradually as the treatment progresses.
Are there any serious side effects of this medicine for my child?
Mefprex-P Suspension is generally well-tolerated by most children, but if your child experiences severe or prolonged side effects like persistent vomiting, swelling in the body, decreased urine output, allergic reaction, or severe pain from gastric ulcers, please contact a doctor immediately.
How should I store Mefprex-P Suspension?
Store Mefprex-P Suspension at room temperature in a dry, dark place away from direct sunlight. Keep the medicine out of reach of children.
My child is taking Mefprex-P Suspension for a toothache and now has to undergo an extraction procedure. Should I continue giving Mefprex-P Suspension?
Withhold Mefprex-P Suspension from at least 3 to 5 days before surgery to prevent excessive bleeding. It is advisable to contact your child’s doctor if there is any confusion.
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Mefprex-P Suspension?
Mefprex-P Suspension may interact with other medications. Before starting this medication, tell your child’s doctor about any other medications they are taking and consult them before giving any additional medicine to your child.
Maintain a log of your child's temperature. If you do not see any improvement, contact your child's doctor for advice. Keep a track of the dose and the frequency in which you have given this medicine to your child. This will help prevent overdosing.
