Lavik-M Syrup is a medication used to treat symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, swelling, congestion, and watery eyes in children. Lavik-M Syrup is commonly prescribed in children to treat symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, swelling, congestion, and watery eyes. It may also help in the treatment of asthma and skin allergies.
Lavik-M Syrup contains Levocetirizine and Montelukast. Together these two relieve sneezing and runny nose caused due to allergies. Levocetirizine is an antiallergic that blocks a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing. Montelukast is a leukotriene antagonist that works by blocking another chemical messenger (leukotriene). This reduces inflammation (swelling) in the airways and nose and improves symptoms.
Can I combine cough and allergy medications for my child?
No, do not mix cough and allergy medicines because they usually contain similar ingredients. This may result in double dosing of the active components, potentially leading to serious side effects.
Is it safe to decrease the dose of Lavik-M Syrup on my own if my child is feeling better?
No, adhere to the prescribed dose by your child's doctor. Never increase or decrease the dose on your own as this could negatively impact your child’s health. Increasing the dose may cause unwanted effects like sedation and depression, while decreasing it or stopping it abruptly can lead to rebound reversal of all symptoms.
How should Lavik-M Syrup be stored?
Lavik-M Syrup should be stored at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep all medications out of reach and sight of children to prevent accidental ingestion.
Does Lavik-M Syrup cause sleepiness in children?
Lavik-M Syrup can cause mild drowsiness that may make your child sleepy. However, it should never be given to induce sleep. Forced sleep could mask underlying sleep disorders like insomnia.
Can I start taking Lavik-M Syrup if my child is about to participate in a sports event in two days?
No, do not start Lavik-M Syrup without consulting your child’s doctor. Additionally, it may cause mild sedation, dizziness, and sleepiness which could negatively impact your child's performance. It is best to consult the doctor first.
Is there a safe way to stop taking Lavik-M Syrup?
No, all symptoms may reappear upon sudden withdrawal of Lavik-M Syrup, often if taken for an extended period. It is strongly advised to discontinue the medication gradually under your child's doctor’s guidance.
Can I give my child Lavik-M Syrup if they have a mood disorder?
Some studies suggest that Lavik-M Syrup may worsen pre-existing mood disorders, including hallucinations, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, shakiness, and trouble controlling body movements. It's crucial to consult your child's doctor before administering any medication.
Can I use Lavik-M Syrup for treating acute asthma attacks in my child?
Lavik-M Syrup is only intended for long-term prevention of asthma attacks, not for stopping an attack that has already begun. Use your child's reliever medication to address an ongoing attack.
Lavik-M Syrup should be used as directed by the doctor. It is important to follow the dosage instructions carefully and not to stop taking the medication without consulting the doctor.
