Gemcal -Kit is a combination medicine used in the treatment of osteoporosis, preventing bone loss and making bones stronger to prevent bone fractures. Gemcal -Kit is best taken in an empty stomach. You should take it regularly at a fixed time each day. Taking it at the same time every day will help you remember to take it. It may take several days to get the full benefit of this drug. Do not stop taking the medicine until your doctor tells you it is alright to stop. This medicine may only be part of a treatment program that may also include changes to your diet and taking other medicines and vitamin supplements.

How it works

Gemcal -Kit is a combination of four medicines: Calcitriol, Calcium Carbonate, Zinc and Risedronate which treat osteoporosis. Calcitriol is a form of vitamin D which helps your body effectively absorb Calcium Carbonate and additionally supports the muscles needed to avoid falls. Calcium Carbonate and Zinc are minerals which help build and maintain bones. Risedronate is a bisphosphonate which works by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts cells that cause destruction of bone. This strengthens the bone and minimizes the risk of fractures.

Direction of use

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Gemcal -Kit is to be taken empty stomach.

Tips

• Gemcal -Kit is prescribed for the treatment of osteoporosis.
• Drink plenty of water while taking this medicine.
• For at least 30 minutes after taking Gemcal -Kit: Do not lie down or recline. Do not take any other medicine including vitamins, calcium, iron, antacids, or laxatives.
• Along with taking Gemcal -Kit, maintain a healthy lifestyle, take a balanced diet, exercise (regular weight-bearing exercise) with your doctor's advise and take proper measures to reduce the risk of falls.
• Let your doctor know if you’re taking an iron supplement as the absorption rate might be affected.
• Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems or if you have ever had kidney stones.
