Dia-MZ Syrup is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. Dia-MZ Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients, ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.
What important health conditions should I inform my child's doctor about before giving Dia-MZ Syrup?
Before giving Dia-MZ Syrup to your child, it is essential to inform their doctor if they have any pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy, neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders affecting blood vessels. This is because Dia-MZ Syrup may worsen these conditions and lead to complications.
Can Dia-MZ Syrup be taken with cough and cold medications?
No, it's not recommended to give Dia-MZ Syrup with cough and cold medicines. One of the ingredients in Dia-MZ Syrup can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups, causing a disulfiram reaction that may result in symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
What if I accidentally give my child an overdose of Dia-MZ Syrup?
In the unlikely event of an overdose, it's essential to seek medical attention immediately. Overdose may cause symptoms such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat.
Why is my child not improving after taking Dia-MZ Syrup for the prescribed duration?
If your child shows no improvement despite completing the prescribed treatment with Dia-MZ Syrup, it may indicate that the medicine was ineffective against the infection-causing bacteria. In such cases, consult their doctor who may prescribe alternative antibiotics or treatments.
Can other medications be taken along with Dia-MZ Syrup?
It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medicines they are taking before starting Dia-MZ Syrup. Additionally, check with their doctor before giving any new medication to avoid potential interactions.
How should Dia-MZ Syrup be stored?
Store Dia-MZ Syrup at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep the medicine out of reach and sight of children to prevent accidental consumption.
Can my child get vaccinated while on treatment with Dia-MZ Syrup?
Generally, antibiotics like Dia-MZ Syrup do not interfere with vaccines or cause adverse reactions in children who have just been vaccinated. However, it's recommended to wait until the illness has resolved before getting vaccinated.
Why is my child passing red-brown urine since starting Dia-MZ Syrup?
The active ingredient metronidazole in Dia-MZ Syrup can cause red-brown urine, which is a common side effect. This symptom typically subsides once the treatment is completed and the medicine is stopped.
Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Dia-MZ Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
