Deriphyllin Tablet is used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) by relaxing the muscles of the air passages and making it easier to breathe. Deriphyllin Tablet is taken without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect or be affected by this medicine. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, headache, and restlessness. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects.

Keep this medicine in the container or the pack it came in, tightly closed. Store it according to the instructions mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children and other people.
What is Deriphyllin Tablet?
Deriphyllin Tablet is a combination of two bronchodilators: Etofylline / Etophylline and Theophylline. They belong to a family of medicines called bronchodilators and work by widening the air passages in your lungs, which allows you to breathe more easily and feel less congested. It is indicated in patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (chest disease).
Does the use of Deriphyllin Tablet cause insomnia (inability to sleep)?
Yes, the use of Deriphyllin Tablet may cause insomnia. If you experience any sleep disturbances while using the drug, consult your doctor.
Does high doses of Deriphyllin Tablet cause serious side effects?
Yes, high doses of Deriphyllinf Tablet can cause very serious effects. These may include nausea, vomiting and stomach pain. High dose use may also lead to a faster heart rate or shaking uncontrollably. Severe cases of overdose may cause seizures, coma, or may prove to be fatal. In case of overdose, contact the nearest hospital emergency room immediately.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Deriphyllin Tablet is to be taken empty stomach. Avoid Deriphyllin Tablet with caffeine and chocolate as well as food containing caffeine and chocolate such as tea leaves, cocoa beans.
- Take it at the same time each day
- preferably in the evening after food
- It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Always keep a fast-acting (rescue) inhaler with you.
- Your doctor may take regular blood test to monitor potassium level and the level of this medicine in your body.
- Notify your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney, liver or heart disease or if you have a smoking history. Your dose may need to be adjusted.
- Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor even if you feel better.
Alcohol
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Deriphyllin Tablet.
Breastfeed
Deriphyllin Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby. Avoiding breastfeeding for 2-4 hours after Deriphyllin Tablet can further decrease the exposure of medicine to the baby.
Pregnancy
Deriphyllin Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
