Azikast L Syrup is a medication used to treat symptoms of allergy, asthma, and skin allergies in children. Azikast L Syrup is commonly prescribed in children to treat symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, swelling, congestion, and watery eyes. It may also help in the treatment of asthma and skin allergies.
Azikast L Syrup contains Levocetirizine and Montelukast. Together these two relieve sneezing and runny nose caused due to allergies. Levocetirizine is an antiallergic that blocks a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing. Montelukast is a leukotriene antagonist that works by blocking another chemical messenger (leukotriene). This reduces inflammation (swelling) in the airways and nose and improves symptoms.
My child has a persistent cough along with allergic symptoms. Can I give cough and allergy medicine together?
No. Do not mix cough and allergy medicines because they usually both contain similar ingredients. Mixing these can lead to double dosing of the active ingredients, which can potentially cause serious side effects.
Can I decrease the dose of Azikast L Syrup by myself if my child starts to feel better?
No, adhere to the dose as prescribed by your child's doctor. Do not increase or decrease the dose by yourself; this can impact your child's health. While increasing the dose may cause unwanted effects like sedation and depression, decreasing the dose or stopping it suddenly can result in rebound reversal of all symptoms.
How should Azikast L Syrup be stored?
Azikast L Syrup should be stored at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children to avoid accidental intake.
Can Azikast L Syrup make my child sleepy?
Azikast L Syrup may cause mild drowsiness, which can lead to sleepiness in your child. However, it should never be used as a means to induce sleep. Forcing sleep could mask any underlying sleep disorders like insomnia.
My child is an athlete and has to participate in a sports event in the next two days. Can I start the course of Azikast L Syrup?
No, do not start Azikast L Syrup without speaking to your child's doctor. Additionally, Azikast L Syrup can negatively impact performance due to mild sedation, dizziness, and sleepiness. Therefore, it is crucial to consult with the doctor first.
Can I stop the medicine by myself?
No, all symptoms may reappear if the medication is abruptly discontinued after prolonged use. It is advised to discontinue this medication gradually under the guidance of your child’s doctor.
My child is suffering from a mood disorder. Is it safe to give Azikast L Syrup to my child?
Some studies indicate that Azikast L Syrup can trigger mood disorders, hallucinations, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, shakiness, and difficulty controlling body movements. It is essential to consult your child's doctor before administering any medicine.
Can I use Azikast L Syrup for treating acute asthma attacks in my child?
Azikast L Syrup should only be used to prevent asthma attacks. It should not be used to stop an attack that has already started. Use your child's reliever medication to assist with an ongoing attack.
