Aptitrust Syrup is a combination medicine used to treat loss of appetite. It is an effective appetite stimulant. Aptitrust Syrup is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. Aptitrust Syrup is a combination of three medicines: Cyproheptadine, tricholine citrate and sorbitol which revives appetite. Cyproheptadine is an appetite-stimulant. It works by reducing the effect of a chemical messenger (serotonin) in the hypothalamus a part of the brain which regulates appetite. Tricholine citrate is a bile acid binding agent which removes bile acids from the body. The liver then produces more bile acids using cholesterol as a result of which cholesterol level is lowered. Sorbitol acts as a syrup base and also as an osmotic laxative to relieve constipation.
What are some common side effects of Aptitrust Syrup?
The use of Aptitrust Syrup can cause dry mouth in some patients. To manage this, drink plenty of water throughout the day and keep a glass nearby at night. You may also consider using lip balm if your lips become dry.
Can Aptitrust Syrup affect my sense of balance or coordination?
Yes, Aptitrust Syrup can cause dizziness or lightheadedness in some patients. If you experience these symptoms, it's best to rest for a while and resume your activities once you feel better. Avoid operating heavy machinery or driving until the dizziness passes.
How should I store Aptitrust Syrup when not in use?
