Zonalta 8mg Tablet is a medicine used in the treatment of manic episodes with or without mixed features of bipolar disorder. It works by increasing the level of chemical messengers in the brain which improves mood and symptoms of mania.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Zonalta 8mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Zonalta 8mg Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Zonalta 8mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Zonalta 8mg Tablet is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. Your doctor may prescribe it only in life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the risks.
Zonalta 8mg Tablet directly inhibits protein kinase C activity (which is found increased to be increased in the manic phase of patients with bipolar I disorder) in the nervous system and subsequently helps to manage certain chemicals in the brain such as glutamate, norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine that control your mood.
Inform your doctor if you experience chest pain or a fast heartbeat after starting treatment with Zonalta 8mg Tablet. Avoid breastfeeding during treatment and for three months after the last dose. It might cause menstrual irregularity or amenorrhea. Consult your doctor. Use contraception to avoid pregnancy during treatment.

This medicine should not be given to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. A pregnancy test should be performed prior to starting treatment in women with reproductive potential and should be instructed to use effective contraception during the treatment with Zonalta 8mg Tablet.
