Xalatan Eye Drop is a medicine used to reduce pressure in the eyes in people with glaucoma and ocular hypertension (high pressure in the eye). Xalatan Eye Drop is suitable for adults and children and can be used by itself or in combination with other eye medicines to reduce pressure. Follow the instructions given by your doctor and use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit. If you stop using it, pressure in the eye could increase and damage your sight. Never use a bottle if the seal is broken before you use it for the first time.
Xalatan Eye Drop is a prostaglandin analogue. It works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor thereby lowering the increased eye pressure.
Can I use contact lenses while using Xalatan Eye Drop?
Yes, you can use contact lenses while using Xalatan Eye Drop. However, it is recommended to remove your contact lenses before instilling the eye drops and wait for 15 minutes before re-inserting them. If you experience any eye irritation, contact your doctor for further guidance.
Can Xalatan Eye Drop cause a change in eye color?
Yes, continued use of Xalatan Eye Drop may cause a change in the color of the iris, particularly brown pigmentation. This change is more common in people with mixed color eyes and may be more noticeable if used in only one eye. The change is likely to be permanent. Additionally, eyelashes may become denser and eyelid color may darken, but this is usually temporary and reversible once the use of Xalatan Eye Drop is discontinued.

Yes, the unopened bottle should be refrigerated at 2° to 8°C (36° to 46°F). Once opened, the bottle can be stored at room temperature up to 25°C (77°F) for not longer than 6 weeks.
How long does it take for Xalatan Eye Drop to start working?
The pressure in the eyes starts decreasing after about 3-4 hours of using Xalatan Eye Drop, and the maximum effect is reached after 8-12 hours.
Can I use Xalatan Eye Drop in the morning?
It is recommended to use Xalatan Eye Drop in the evening for best results. Using it in the evening for the first few days has shown significantly effective results in lowering eye pressure, and the effect remains for about 24 hours after administration.
When to seek doctor’s advice while using Xalatan Eye Drop?
You should contact your doctor immediately if you develop an eye infection, injury, conjunctivitis, or an eyelid reaction. Additionally, inform your doctor if you have undergone any eye surgery earlier. Use Xalatan Eye Drop as prescribed by your doctor.
This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off the extra liquid.
- Xalatan Eye Drop helps lower high pressure in the eye and reduces the risk of vision loss.
- For best results, put one drop once a day in the evening/night in the affected eye(s).
- Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.
- Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
- Xalatan Eye Drop may cause brown pigmentation of the iris. This discoloration may be permanent.
- Your eyelashes may become more dense and eyelid skin may darken. These changes should disappear after discontinuing Xalatan Eye Drop.

Breastfeed
Xalatan Eye Drop should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.
Pregnancy
Xalatan Eye Drop may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you.
