Winfect-M Oral Suspension is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in children.
Oral Suspension
Winfect-M Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Give Winfect-M Oral Suspension to your child as directed by the doctor.
Winfect-M Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Winfect-M Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Winfect-M Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, or vitamin within 2 hours of taking Winfect-M Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Winfect-M Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Winfect-M Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
You must inform your child's doctor if they have any of the following conditions: heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sunlight allergy), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is because Winfect-M Oral Suspension may aggravate these conditions and lead to complications.
No, Winfect-M Oral Suspension should not be given alongside cough and cold medicines. This is because one of the ingredients in Winfect-M Oral Suspension can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups, potentially leading to a disulfiram reaction which may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness.
While extra doses of Winfect-M Oral Suspension are unlikely to be harmful, it is crucial to contact your child's doctor immediately. Overdose may lead to unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if you observe any of these symptoms.
If your child does not experience improvement after the completed treatment, consult their doctor. They may prescribe a stronger antibiotic that offers higher efficacy against the bacteria causing the infection. In some cases, this may require intravenous administration (IV) in a hospital setting.
Winfect-M Oral Suspension may interact with other medications or substances. Inform your child's doctor of all other medicines they are currently taking before starting treatment with Winfect-M Oral Suspension. Additionally, it is crucial to consult their doctor before giving any medication to your child.
Store Winfect-M Oral Suspension at room temperature in a dry place away from direct heat and light. Children may consume medicines accidentally, so ensure all medications are kept out of their reach.
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction. However, children should not be vaccinated until they have recovered from their illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.
The active ingredient in Winfect-M Oral Suspension, metronidazole, causes red-brown urine. This is not harmful and will subside after the medication's completion.
