Key Information

Short Description

Vivospas Oral Suspension is a medication used to treat stomach pain, bloating, and abdominal cramps, as well as pain associated with excessive acidity, gas, infections, and gastrointestinal tract diseases.

Dosage Form

Oral Suspension

Introduction

Vivospas Oral Suspension is commonly given to treat stomach pain, bloating, and abdominal cramps, and pain associated with excessive acidity, gas, infections, and gastrointestinal tract diseases. It also controls symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. It relaxes the muscles of the gut and absorbs the extra gas.

Directions for Use

Consult your doctor for proper usage and dosage.

How it works

Vivospas Oral Suspension is a mixture of two active medicines Dicyclomine, an antispasmodic agent, and Simethicone, an antifoaming medicine. Dicyclomine works by relaxing the muscles in your stomach and gut (intestine). It stops sudden muscle contractions (spasms) thereby relieving abdominal cramps and pain. Whereas Simethicone disintegrates gas bubbles and allows easy passage of gas.

Quick Tips

Inform your doctor if you experience severe or long-lasting pain in your stomach. Give your child a diet that is rich in fiber and low in fermentable sugars. Avoid giving gas-producing foods to your child such as beans, onions, carrots, raisins, and bananas. Encourage your child to exercise daily as it has potential benefits in constipation and in improving overall wellbeing. In children less than 2 months of age, do not give Vivospas Oral Suspension without ruling out the reasons that might be making your child cry. Give Vivospas Oral Suspension only if your child shows actual signs of abdominal discomfort or pain after consulting your child’s doctor. Children may experience abdominal pain due to migraines. The other associated symptoms can be a headache, nausea, anorexia, vomiting, and pallor. Since Vivospas Oral Suspension is strictly for abdominal pain, rule out such types of pain before giving this medicine.

Frequently asked questions

My child is experiencing abdominal pain along with nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. Is Vivospas Oral Suspension safe for such a condition?

Abdominal pain associated with nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light could indicate abdominal migraine, characterized by recurrent episodes of dull and moderate to severe abdominal pain lasting at least six months. This typically occurs in the midline or is poorly localized. Additionally, the child may experience anorexia, headache, photophobia (sensitivity to light), and pallor. It's essential to rule out these types of abdominal pain before administering Vivospas Oral Suspension.

What specific tests are needed for my child if he has abdominal pain?

The doctor may recommend an abdominal ultrasound as part of a routine examination. In serious cases, endoscopy and esophageal pH monitoring may be considered.

In which medical conditions should Vivospas Oral Suspension not be administered?

Avoid giving Vivospas Oral Suspension in obstructive and inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract such as heartburn, unstable cardiovascular diseases, obstructive uropathy (kidney problems), glaucoma, muscle weakness disorder, liver impairment, hyperthyroidism, neuropathy, and kidney impairment.

Can other medications be taken at the same time as Vivospas Oral Suspension?

Vivospas Oral Suspension can potentially interact with other medications or substances. Consult your doctor about all medications your child is currently taking before starting Vivospas Oral Suspension. Additionally, check with your child’s doctor regarding any new medications.
