Vernate Tablet is used for the treatment of malaria in both children and adults. It contains two medicines both of which belong to a group of medicines called antimalarials. Vernate Tablet works by killing the malaria-causing parasites thereby preventing further spread of the infection. It should be taken with food as this will help your body better absorb the medicine. Take it in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Do not take more than the recommended dose as this may have harmful effects on your body. Complete the full course of treatment to make sure the infection is treated completely.
Vernate Tablet is a combination of two antiparasitic medicines: Artemether and Lumefantrine which treats malaria. These medicines work by increasing the levels of haeme in the blood a substance toxic to the malarial parasite. This kills the parasite and stops the infection from spreading.
How to take Vernate Tablet?
Take Vernate Tablet with food, exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Dosage is usually two tablets twice a day with meals for 3 days, or as directed. On the first day of treatment, take your first dose with food followed by your second dose 8 hours later. For the next 2 days, take one dose in the morning and one in the evening. Patients should be encouraged to resume normal eating as soon as food can be tolerated, as this improves the absorption of the medicine.
Can I take Vernate Tablet while I am pregnant?
No, Vernate Tablet is considered harmful for women in their first trimester of pregnancy. The reason being, it increases the chances of fetal loss.
Are there any specific contraindications associated with the use of Vernate Tablet?
The use of Vernate Tablet is considered harmful for patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the active or inactive ingredients of the medicine. Caution is advised in patients with cases of severe malaria and in the first trimester of pregnancy.
What should I know about the storage and disposal of Vernate Tablet?
Store Vernate Tablet in the original container, tightly closed. Keep it away from children. Store at room temperature, and keep it out of excess heat and moisture.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Vernate Tablet is to be taken with food.
- Wear light-coloured and covered clothing when you are outside after sunset.
- Use insect repellent creams or sprays on parts of your body not covered by clothing.
- Spray to kill any mosquitoes that may have entered rooms in spite of screening.
- Finish the prescribed course even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.

Alcohol
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Vernate Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Breastfeed
Vernate Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Pregnancy
Vernate Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
