Tolvarise 30mg Tablet is a medicine used in the treatment of low levels of sodium in the blood. Tolvarise 30mg Tablet can be taken with or without food. It should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the dose and how often you should take them. You should take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not stop taking the medicine even if you feel better unless the doctor tells you so.
Tolvarise 30mg Tablet is a vasopressin antagonist. It works by blocking the effect of the hormone vasopressin in the body. This increases urine production, reduces the amount of water in the blood and raises the blood sodium level.
What is the most important information I need to be aware of while taking Tolvarise 30mg Tablet?
Tolvarise 30mg Tablet may increase sodium levels in your blood too quickly. This rapid increase in sodium levels can cause a serious condition called osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS), which may lead to coma and even death. The symptoms of ODS could include difficulty speaking, trouble swallowing, or feeling like food or liquids get stuck while swallowing; drowsiness; confusion; mood changes; fits; trouble controlling body movements (involuntary movement); and muscle weakness in arms and legs.
For how long do I need to take Tolvarise 30mg Tablet?
Tolvarise 30mg Tablet is used to correct sodium levels in the blood. While the dose and duration are prescribed by your doctor, it should not be taken for more than 30 days. Once sodium levels return to normal after discussing this with your doctor, you can stop taking Tolvarise 30mg Tablet.
Does Tolvarise 30mg Tablet affect the sugar levels in blood?
Yes, Tolvarise 30mg Tablet may increase blood sugar levels. Therefore, patients with diabetes mellitus should be extra cautious when taking this medication and closely monitor their blood sugar levels regularly.
Who should not take Tolvarise 30mg Tablet?
You should not take Tolvarise 30mg Tablet if you have low sodium levels, cannot replace fluids by drinking or if you cannot tell when you are thirsty, dizzy, or feeling faint, or if your kidneys are not working properly due to excessive fluid loss. Additionally, avoid taking this medication if you are allergic to it or are on certain medicines that may interfere with its function.
Can I have grapefruit juice while taking Tolvarise 30mg Tablet?
No, you should not take grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Tolvarise 30mg Tablet. This is because grapefruit or grapefruit juice may increase the levels of Tolvarise 30mg Tablet in your blood, leading to a rapid rise in sodium levels.
What will happen if I take excess of Tolvarise 30mg Tablet?
If you exceed the recommended dose of Tolvarise 30mg Tablet, urgent medical attention is needed. Please contact your doctor or seek immediate emergency care at a nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosing on Tolvaptan may include thirst; dry and flaky skin; sunken eyes; rapid heartbeat; rapid and shallow breathing; very low blood pressure; increased urine output; and fainting.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Tolvarise 30mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Alcohol
Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Tolvarise 30mg Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Breastfeed
Tolvarise 30mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
