Povimet Ointment is a combination medicine used to treat skin wounds, prevent microorganism growth, and promote healing. Povimet Ointment is only meant for external use and should be used as advised by your doctor. A thin layer of the medicine should be applied only to the affected areas of the skin with clean and dry hands. If it gets into your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina, rinse with water. It may take several days to weeks for your symptoms to improve, but you should keep using this medicine regularly. The course of the treatment should be completed to ensure better efficacy of the medicine. If your condition does not improve or gets worse, you should talk to your doctor.
Povimet Ointment is a combination of two medicines: Metronidazole and Povidone Iodine. Metronidazole is an antibiotic which kills bacteria and other harmful microorganisms by damaging their DNA. Povidone Iodine is an antiseptic applied on skin which is infected or is likely to get infected. It slowly releases iodine which kills or prevents the growth of these microorganisms.
How should Povimet Ointment be stored?
Store this ointment in its original packaging, securely sealed. Follow the storage instructions on the product label or package. Dispose of any unused medication safely and away from animals, children, and others.
What should I do with leftover Povimet Ointment?
Do not consume any leftover medicine. Safely dispose of it as per local regulations for medications.
This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and gently massage the ointment.
- Clean the wound and then apply the cream to the affected area using a sterile gloved hand or a sterile spatula.
- Apply it once or twice daily and re-apply to any areas from which it gets removed due to activity. Burn areas should be covered with the cream at all times.
- Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the cream in these areas.

Breastfeed
Povimet Ointment should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body. If a single dose of Povimet Ointment is used, it is recommended to hold breastfeeding for 12-24 hours to allow the removal of the drug.
Pregnancy
Povimet Ointment may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
