In children, it is used to treat infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Oxn M Suspension is an antibiotic having ofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients. Both these medicines damage the DNA of the infection-causing bacteria, thus killing it by stopping its growth. This prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
What if I give excess Oxn M Suspension by mistake?
While an extra dose of Oxn M Suspension will not have any side effects, you must always be vigilant. If you think you have given too much Oxn M Suspension to your child, immediately consult a doctor. Overdose increases the risk of unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if you observe any of these symptoms.
What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Oxn M Suspension for the prescribed duration?
Ineffective treatment with Oxn M Suspension could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, consult your child's doctor who may prescribe another antibiotic with more specific action towards the infecting bacteria.
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Oxn M Suspension?
Oxn M Suspension may interact with other medications or substances. Inform your doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Oxn M Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Oxn M Suspension?
Antibiotics generally do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, children on antibiotics should not be vaccinated until they recover from the illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
What should I tell the doctor before giving Oxn M Suspension to my child?
Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. There is a possibility that Oxn M Suspension may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
My child has been passing red-brown urine ever since he started taking Oxn M Suspension. Is it normal?
Yes, it is normal. Oxn M Suspension contains an active ingredient called metronidazole which can cause reddish brown urine. It is a harmless side effect that will subside once the medicine is stopped after the treatment.
My child has a common cold. Is it safe to give Oxn M Suspension along with cough and cold medicines?
No, do not give Oxn M Suspension with cough and cold medicines as this may interfere with their effectiveness.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
