Oflospar MS Syrup is a medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract in children. Oflospar MS Syrup is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Oflospar MS Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole, are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.
What specific medical conditions should be disclosed to the doctor before administering Oflospar MS Syrup to my child?
Before starting Oflospar MS Syrup, it is crucial to inform the doctor about your child's history with any of the following: heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders (e.g., depression), diabetes, photoallergy (sensitivity to sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders affecting blood vessels. This is because these conditions could be exacerbated by Oflospar MS Syrup.
Can Oflospar MS Syrup be combined with cough and cold medicines?
No, it is not recommended to combine Oflospar MS Syrup with other medications such as cough and cold mixtures. The presence of certain ingredients in Oflospar MS Syrup may cause an interaction with alcohol-containing medications (cough syrups), potentially leading to a disulfiram reaction.
What should be done if accidental overdose of Oflospar MS Syrup occurs?
It is unlikely that a single dose over-consumption of Oflospar MS Syrup will result in significant harm. However, if you suspect an overdose has occurred, seek immediate medical attention from your child’s doctor. Overdose may cause additional side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heartbeat.
What should be done if Oflospar MS Syrup does not yield improvement in my child's condition after the prescribed period of treatment?
If your child does not experience symptom relief with Oflospar MS Syrup over the prescribed duration, it might indicate that the medication is ineffective against the underlying infection. In this instance, it is essential to consult with your child’s doctor for potential alternatives. They may recommend a different antibiotic with potentially higher efficacy in treating the specific bacteria causing the illness.
Can other medications be taken simultaneously with Oflospar MS Syrup?
Ocareflospar MS Syrup may interact with certain medications or substances. It is vital to inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are taking before starting Oflospar MS Syrup. Always consult your child’s healthcare professional before administering any new medication.
How should Oflospar MS Syrup be stored for optimal efficacy and safety?
Store Oflospar MS Syrup at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or excessive heat. Ensure it is kept in a cool, dry location, protected from moisture and light exposure, to prevent degradation.
Can vaccinations be administered alongside Oflospar MS Syrup?
Most vaccines are compatible with the administration of Oflospar MS Syrup. However, it is recommended to postpone vaccination until after your child's illness has fully recovered. Once your child feels better, you can administer the vaccine according to the doctor’s guidance.
My child reports having passed red-brown urine since starting Oflospar MS Syrup. Is this normal?
The presence of red-brown urine in your child is a potential side effect caused by Oflospar MS Syrup's active ingredient, metronidazole. It is not a sign of infection or a medical concern itself, but rather a known side effect that will resolve on its own once the medication cycle ends.
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Oflospar MS Syrup on tongue) after taking Oflospar MS Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
