Oflonir M Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that is effective against a wide range of bacterial and parasitic infections. In children, it is used to treat infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract.
Oflonir M Syrup is an antibiotic having ofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients. Both these medicines damage the DNA of the infection-causing bacteria, thus killing it by stopping its growth. This prevents the infection from spreading without making the bacteria resistant to further treatment.
What if I give excess Oflonir M Syrup by mistake?
While an extra dose of Oflonir M Syrup will not have any side effects, you must always be vigilant. If you think you have given too much Oflonir M Syrup to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose increases the risk of unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Rush to your child’s doctor on an immediate basis if you notice any of these symptoms.
What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Oflonir M Syrup for the prescribed duration?
Ineffective treatment with Oflonir M Syrup could mean that the medicine is not able to act against the infection-causing bacteria. In such a case, visit your child’s doctor who may prescribe some other antibiotic, having more specific action toward the infection-causing bacteria.
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Oflonir M Syrup?
Oflonir M Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Oflonir M Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Oflonir M Syrup?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
What should I tell the doctor before giving Oflonir M Syrup to my child?
Inform the doctor if your child is suffering from heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there is a possibility that Oflonir M Syrup may aggravate these conditions and result in complications.
My child has been passing red-brown urine ever since he started taking Oflonir M Syrup. Is it normal?
Yes, it is normal. Oflonir M Syrup contains an active ingredient called metronidazole which can cause red-brown urine. It is a harmless side effect. It will subside once the medicine is stopped after the completion of the treatment.
My child has a common cold. Is it safe to give Oflonir M Syrup along with cough and cold medicines?
No, do not give Oflonir M Syrup with cough and cold medicines as it can interfere with their working.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection.
- If your child develops diarrhea as a side effect, encourage them to drink plenty of water.
- Oflonir M Syrup may cause an altered taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
- Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid to your child within 2 hours of taking Oflonir M Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
- Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions.
- Discontinue Oflonir M Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
- Never save the medicine for future illnesses since its effectiveness in future infections cannot be guaranteed.
