O2Or M Oral Suspension is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in children. O2Or M Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
O2Or M Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole, are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.
What must I inform my healthcare provider before administering O2Or M Oral Suspension to my child?
You must inform your healthcare provider if your child has a history of heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders affecting blood vessels. This is because there is a possibility that O2Or M Oral Suspension may exacerbate these conditions and lead to complications.
Can O2Or M Oral Suspension be given concurrently with cough and cold medications?
No, do not administer O2Or M Oral Suspension with cough and cold medications. The presence of certain ingredients in O2Or M Oral Suspension may interact with alcohol-containing medicines such as cough syrups, potentially causing a disulfiram reaction that can manifest as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, or other discomfort.
What if an overdose of O2Or M Oral Suspension is accidentally given to my child?
An extra dose of O2Or M Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause harm. However, if you believe your child has received too much medication, immediately contact a healthcare provider. Overdose may lead to unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heart rhythms.
What should I do if my child fails to show improvement despite taking O2Or M Oral Suspension for the recommended duration?
If your child does not improve after completing the prescribed course of O2Or M Oral Suspension, seek medical advice from a healthcare provider. They may recommend switching to another antibiotic with higher efficacy against the specific bacteria causing the infection.

My child has been passing red-brown urine since starting O2Or M Oral Suspension. Is this normal?
O2Or M Oral Suspension contains metronidazole, which causes a change in urine color to red or brown. This is not harmful but a side effect. The reddish-brown hue typically resolves after the medication course is completed.
Give O2Or M Oral Suspension to your child as directed by your doctor.
- Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water.
- Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of O2Or M Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking O2Or M Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
- Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, or vitamin within 2 hours of taking O2Or M Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
- Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and O2Or M Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections.
- Discontinue O2Or M Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing.
- Only give O2Or M Oral Suspension to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.
