Nikoran 5 Tablet is a medicine used to prevent and treat heart-related chest pain (angina). It is usually prescribed when other heart medicines are either not suitable or have not worked. Nikoran 5 Tablet may be taken with or without food. It should be swallowed whole with water. Take this medicine regularly and at about the same time(s) each day. Your doctor will decide the dose and how often you should take it. This may change from time to time depending on how well it is working. Do not stop taking it without talking to our doctor as sudden withdrawal may cause your chest pain to come back. You can improve the health of your heart by making some lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, cutting down on alcohol, eating well, exercising regularly, and managing stress.
Nikoran 5 Tablet is a vasodilator. It works by reducing the workload of the heart. As a result, heart muscle does not need as much blood and oxygen supply. It also relaxes coronary artery (that carries blood to heart). This reduces the frequency and severity of angina attacks.
What class of drug is Nikoran 5 Tablet and what is it used for?
Nikoran 5 Tablet belongs to a class of medicines known as potassium channel openers. It causes widening of the arteries, which decreases the workload of the heart to pump blood. This improves blood and oxygen supply to your heart muscle. It is prescribed to patients with stable angina (heart-related chest pain) who cannot take other medications (beta-blockers, calcium channel antagonists) meant for angina.
Can I stop taking Nikoran 5 Tablet?
No, you should not stop taking Nikoran 5 Tablet without speaking to your doctor first. If you stop Nikoran 5 Tablet suddenly, your anginal pain may recur. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing any side effects.
How long does it take Nikoran 5 Tablet to start working?
Nikoran 5 Tablet starts working after about an hour of taking the medicine, but full benefits may be seen only after 4 to 5 days.
For how long do I need to continue Nikoran 5 Tablet?
Continue taking your medication for as long as your doctor tells you. Nikoran 5 Tablet is generally prescribed for a long-term, and you may even need to take it for the rest of your life.
What if somebody accidentally takes excess of Nikoran 5 Tablet?
If an accidental overdose occurs, immediately seek medical attention. Possible symptoms include low blood pressure (feeling weak or dizzy), irregular or fast heartbeats.
Can I take Nikoran 5 Tablet if I am taking aspirin?
You should not combine Nikoran 5 Tablet and aspirin, as this increases the risk of ulcers or bleeding in the mouth, stomach, or intestine. If you notice blood in your stool or vomit while using Nikoran 5 Tablet, consult your doctor immediately.
Who should not use Nikoran 5 Tablet?
People with a history of allergy to Nikoran 5 Tablet or any ingredients should avoid it. Patients with heart problems like cardiogenic shock, left ventricular failure with low filling pressure or cardiac decompensation, or pulmonary edema should also avoid using the medication. Additionally, patients taking medicines for erectile dysfunction (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil) or pulmonary hypertension (e.g., riociguat) should not use Nikoran 5 Tablet. Your blood pressure may be affected by co-administration with these medications or if you have low blood volume.
Can Nikoran 5 Tablet affect my sex life?
Nikoran 5 Tablet does not impact your sex life, but taking medicines for erectile dysfunction (e.g., sildenafil or tadalafil) or premature ejaculation (e.g., vardenafil or dapoxetine) together with Nikoran 5 Tablet is not recommended. This combination can lead to a significant drop in blood pressure.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Nikoran 5 Tablet may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

- Nikoran 5 Tablet may cause headaches. Drink plenty of water and take a suitable painkiller. Inform your doctor if it does not go away.
- Nikoran 5 Tablet may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything which requires concentration until you know how it affects you.
- Do not consume alcohol while taking Nikoran 5 Tablet as that may cause increased dizziness.
- Do not take medications like sildenafil or tadalafil (prescribed for erectile dysfunction) while on treatment with Nikoran 5 Tablet as it may cause low blood pressure.
- Inform your doctor if you notice any bleeding from the anal passage, blood in vomit or black stools.

Alcohol
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Nikoran 5 Tablet.
Breastfeed
Nikoran 5 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Pregnancy
Nikoran 5 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
