Nicostar 10 Tablet is a medicine used to prevent and treat heart-related chest pain (angina). It is usually prescribed when other heart medicines are either not suitable or have not worked. Nicostar 10 Tablet may be taken with or without food. It should be swallowed whole with water. Take this medicine regularly and at about the same time(s) each day. Your doctor will decide the dose and how often you should take it. This may change from time to time depending on how well it is working. Do not stop taking it without talking to our doctor as sudden withdrawal may cause your chest pain to come back. You can improve the health of your heart by making some lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, cutting down on alcohol, eating well, exercising regularly, and managing stress.
Nicostar 10 Tablet is a vasodilator. It works by reducing the workload of the heart. As a result, heart muscle does not need as much blood and oxygen supply. It also relaxes coronary artery (that carries blood to heart). This reduces the frequency and severity of angina attacks.
What class of drug is Nicostar 10 Tablet and what is it used for?
Nicostar 10 Tablet belongs to a class of medicines known as 'potassium channel openers'. It causes widening of the arteries, which decreases the workload of the heart to pump blood. It also improves blood and oxygen supply to your heart muscle. This medicine is prescribed to patients with stable angina (heart-related chest pain) who cannot take other medications like beta-blockers or calcium channel antagonists meant for angina.
Can I stop taking Nicostar 10 Tablet?
No, you should not stop taking Nicostar 10 Tablet without speaking to your doctor first. If you stop taking Nicostar 10 Tablet suddenly, your anginal pain may recur. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing any side effects.
How long does it take Nicostar 10 Tablet to start working?
Nicostar 10 Tablet starts working after about an hour of taking the medicine, but full benefits may be seen only after 4 to 5 days.
For how long do I need to continue Nicostar 10 Tablet?
Continue taking your medicine for as long as your doctor tells you. Nicostar 10 Tablet is generally prescribed for a long term. You may even need to take it for the rest of your life.
What if somebody accidentally takes excess of Nicostar 10 Tablet?
Seek immediate medical attention if someone accidentally consumes a large amount of Nicostar 10 Tablet. This may cause low blood pressure, which can lead to symptoms such as weakness or dizziness. They may also experience irregular or fast heartbeats.
Can I take Nicostar 10 Tablet if I am taking aspirin?
It is not recommended to combine Nicostar 10 Tablet with aspirin, as this combination increases the risk of ulcers or bleeding in the mouth, stomach, or intestines. Consult your doctor immediately if you notice blood in your stool or vomit while using Nicostar 10 Tablet.
Who should not use Nicostar 10 Tablet?
People with allergies to Nicostar 10 Tablet or its ingredients should avoid it. Additionally, patients who have heart problems such as cardiogenic shock or left ventricular failure with low filling pressure or cardiac decompensation or have a build-up of fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema) should not use Nicostar 10 Tablet. Also, patients taking medicines to treat erectile dysfunction (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil) or medicines to treat pulmonary hypertension (e.g., riociguat) should not use the medication. Your blood pressure may be affected if these medicines are taken with Nicostar 10 Tablet or if you have low blood volume.
Can Nicostar 10 Tablet affect my sex life?
No, Nicostar 10 Tablet does not affect your sex life. However, it is not recommended to take medicines used to treat erectile dysfunction (e.g., sildenafil or tadalafil) or premature ejaculation (e.g., vardenafil or dapoxetine) while taking Nicostar 10 Tablet. Combining these medications can lead to a significant drop in blood pressure.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Nicostar 10 Tablet may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

- Do not consume alcohol while taking Nicostar 10 Tablet as that may cause increased dizziness.
- Do not take medications like sildenafil or tadalafil (prescribed for erectile dysfunction) while on treatment with Nicostar 10 Tablet as it may cause low blood pressure.
- Inform your doctor if you notice any bleeding from the anal passage, blood in vomit or black stools.

Alcohol
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Nicostar 10 Tablet.
Breastfeed
Nicostar 10 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Pregnancy
Nicostar 10 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
