Introduction

Methylcobalamin is a form of vitamin B12 that is used to treat diseases of vitamin B12 deficiency, such as pernicious anemia, and diseases of effective B12 deficiency. It is retained in the body better than cyanocobalamin and has been shown to normalize protein transport in nerve cells in people with diabetes. Methylcobalamin also exhibits inhibitory effects on nerve degeneration in neuropathies induced by drugs and accelerates the metabolic pathways of nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids through its involvement in the transmethylation reaction.
