Mexate 5 Tablet is used for treating cancer in various parts of the body and also for rheumatoid arthritis, severe psoriasis, and Crohn’s disease. Mexate 5 Tablet may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. It is crucial to take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Overdosing can cause serious side effects. Benefits may take several weeks or months to appear, but do not stop taking it unless advised by your doctor. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase the risk of liver damage. Common side effects include ulcerative stomatitis, hair loss, low blood cell count, increased liver enzymes, nausea, and abdominal distress. Your doctor may recommend folic acid to mitigate some side effects. This medicine may lower your ability to fight infections and cause issues with your blood, liver, or kidneys. Regular tests may be performed to monitor these effects. Inform your doctor if you have stomach, liver, or kidney problems or are taking any other medications. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding as it may harm the baby.
Mexate 5 Tablet inhibits enzymes (dihydrofolate reductase), prevents cell division, and leads to anti-inflammatory actions. It kills cancer cells by preventing them from making DNA. It helps control psoriasis by slowing the production of skin cells and suppressing inflammation. It treats rheumatoid arthritis by suppressing the immune system, reducing inflammation that causes swollen and stiff joints, or damage to the bowel in Crohn's disease.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it whole without chewing, crushing, or breaking it. Mexate 5 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
