Lactopro 10gm Syrup is a type of sugar used to treat constipation and hepatic encephalopathy (a liver disease causing confusion, tremor, decreased level of consciousness). Lactopro 10gm Syrup can be taken with or without food. You should take this medicine as advised by your doctor. Use this medicine regularly to get the maximum benefit and try to take it at the same time(s) each day. Your dose may go up or down depending on how well it is working. Do not take more than you are advised to and if you miss a dose, do not take an extra one to make up for it. This medicine takes at least 48 hours to work. Talk to your doctor if you are still constipated after 3 days.
Lactopro 10gm Syrup works by drawing water into the intestine through osmosis which makes the stool soft and easier to pass.
How long does Lactopro 10gm Syrup typically take to show its benefits?
Lactopro 10gm Syrup usually takes about 2-3 days to start showing its effects. If you experience constipation even after 3 days of taking the syrup, consult your doctor.
What conditions does Lactopro 10gm Syrup treat?
Lactopro 10gm Syrup is used to manage constipation, characterized by infrequent bowel movements and hard, dry stools. It is also prescribed for patients with hepatic encephalopathy, a serious liver condition causing confusion, tremors, and decreased consciousness.
Is Lactopro 10gm Syrup classified as a laxative?
Yes, Lactopro 10gm Syrup acts as a laxative. It helps soften stools by drawing water from the body into the large intestine. Additionally, it reduces ammonia levels in the blood of patients with liver disease.
What are common side effects associated with Lactopro 10gm Syrup?
Lactopro 10gm Syrup commonly causes diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Diarrhea and abdominal discomfort may occur due to high doses; in such cases, the dose should be reduced. Flatulence is often temporary and resolves on its own within a few days. This medication can also lead to electrolyte imbalances, but this is a less common side effect.
How long should Lactopro 10gm Syrup be taken?
You should take Lactopro 10gm Syrup for as long as your doctor advises or until constipation resolves, which may last up to a week. For hepatic encephalopathy treatment, the duration may extend several months.
Who is not suitable for taking Lactopro 10gm Syrup?
Lactopro 10gm Syrup should not be given to individuals with lactose intolerance or those who are allergic to it. It's also contraindicated in patients with galactosemia, a rare condition where the body cannot process galactose.
Can I take other laxatives with Lactopro 10gm Syrup?
Generally, one laxative is sufficient for relieving constipation. However, if your doctor recommends it, you may be advised to take another laxative in addition to Lactopro 10gm Syrup, which increases the risk of side effects.
