Jakmac-ER Tablet is used to treat moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ulcerative colitis. Jakmac-ER Tablet may be prescribed by itself or in combination with another medicine. The tablets can be taken with or without food and it is best to take them at the same time each day. Your dose will depend on your condition and what other medicines you are taking. You should use it as your doctor tells you to. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to because your condition could get worse.
Jakmac-ER Tablet is a Janus kinase inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of the enzyme Janus kinase. This decreases the activity of the immune system and inflammation associated with rheumatic diseases and ulcerative colitis.
Can I take Jakmac-ER Tablet if I have liver problems?
Please inform your doctor about any pre-existing liver problems before starting Jakmac-ER Tablet. This is because in some cases, Jakmac-ER Tablet may cause an increase in liver enzymes. Your liver function should be checked beforehand to assess the suitability of treatment with Jakmac-ER Tablet. While Jakmac-ER Tablet can be prescribed to patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, it should not be given to those with severe liver impairment.
Can Jakmac-ER Tablet cause cancer?
Jakmac-ER Tablet may increase the risk of developing certain types of cancer (lymphoma and other cancers including skin cancers) by affecting the immune system. If you have a history of cancer, please inform your doctor about this.
What is Jakmac-ER Tablet used for?
Jakmac-ER Tablet is approved for use in individuals with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis. It is an inflammatory disease that affects the joints. This medication is used when previous treatments have not been effective or have not provided suitable relief, and it can be used earlier in the treatment plan if a patient does not respond well to prescribed drugs. Jakmac-ER Tablet can be used alone or in conjunction with other medications, such as methotrexate.
How long does it take for Jakmac-ER Tablet to start working?
Jakmac-ER Tablet usually takes 2 to 8 weeks before you begin to feel any improvements, and it may take 3 to 6 months for the full effect of this medication to be realized.
Do I need to get any investigations done before starting Jakmac-ER Tablet?
Blood tests are typically required before starting Jakmac-ER Tablet. These tests assess your blood count (red blood cells, white blood cells), cholesterol levels and liver enzyme activity. Your doctor may also advise you for tuberculosis testing prior to starting Jakmac-ER Tablet if a positive test is detected.
Can Jakmac-ER Tablet cause infections?
Jakmac-ER Tablet has the potential to suppress your immune system, making you more susceptible to infections. It may also increase the risk of serious infections, including tuberculosis. In certain cases, these infections can pose a significant threat to life and require hospitalization.
If I am already taking tocilizumab, can I take Jakmac-ER Tablet?
You should not combine tocilizumab with Jakmac-ER Tablet. Both medications impact the immune system, increasing the risk of infection. This combination could further worsen complications.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Jakmac-ER Tablet may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Alcohol
Consuming alcohol with Jakmac-ER Tablet does not cause any harmful side effects.
Breastfeed
Jakmac-ER Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Pregnancy
Jakmac-ER Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby.
