Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet is a medicine known as an anticoagulant or blood thinner. It helps prevent and treat blood clots. It is used to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet is commonly used in patients with irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) to prevent clot formation. It also reduces the risk of getting clots in people who have undergone knee or hip replacement surgeries. It may be taken with or without food. Take it at the same time each day for maximum benefits. You may need to take this medicine for many years even for life in some cases. Do not stop taking it or change the dose without guidance from your doctor. It could quickly put you more at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or thrombosis (formation of a blood clot within a blood vessel).
Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet is a novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC). It works by stopping a clotting factor called factor Xa from working. This helps prevent the formation of blood clots in the body.
What are the side effects of Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet?
The most common side effects of Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet include prolonged or excessive bleeding, breathlessness (which can be a sign of bleeding), weakness, fatigue, paleness, dizziness, headache, and unexplained swelling. Other potential side effects can be severe skin rashes and allergic reactions, bruising, coughing up blood, bleeding from the skin or under the skin, and swelling and pain in the limbs. Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet may also increase bilirubin levels and decrease platelet counts. Some people may experience fainting episodes, a faster heartbeat, and dry mouth. If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
Is Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet a blood thinner?
Yes, Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet is a blood thinner. It works by preventing blood from clotting within the blood vessels and also prevents blood clots from recurring in the blood vessels. This medication may be prescribed for treating blood clots in the legs and lungs.
Is Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet dangerous?
Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet is a beneficial medication, but it can increase bleeding risk. It may lead to more serious bleeding than usual when combined with even minor injuries due to its ability to thin the blood. In some instances, Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet might cause dangerous and severe bleeding, which requires immediate medical attention. This risk is heightened if you are also taking other medications that thin the blood. If you notice any bleeding, consult your doctor immediately.
What foods should you avoid if you are on blood thinners?
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be avoided when taking Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet. This is because the compounds in grapefruit can slow down the metabolism of Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet, leading to increased bleeding risk. However, if you are also on other blood thinners like warfarin, you need to avoid food that increases vitamin K activity or promotes clotting. Common examples include spinach, Brussels sprouts, mustard greens, broccoli, asparagus, and green tea. These foods are not necessarily restricted with Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Ixarola 2.5mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
