EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet contains Empagliflozin and is used to treat type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and heart failure. It lowers blood sugar levels and helps reduce the risk of hospitalization. EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet is used to treat type 2 diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease (CKD). It helps lower blood sugar levels in people with diabetes when used with diet and exercise. In heart failure and CKD, it helps reduce hospitalizations and slows disease progression.
EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet works by selectively blocking a protein in the kidneys called the sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2). This protein is responsible for reabsorbing glucose from the urine back into the bloodstream. By inhibiting this protein, EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet causes glucose to be eliminated through urine, lowering blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. This also leads to mild salt and water loss, helps reduce kidney and heart overload, and slows the progression of chronic kidney disease.
What is the recommended method of taking EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet?
Take the recommended dose advised by the doctor. EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet may be taken with or without food. It should be swallowed whole with water, preferably at the same time each day. For best results, it is important to stay on a diet and exercise program as directed by your doctor.
Can I stop taking EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet when I feel better?
No, do not stop taking EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet without consulting your doctor. Doing so can lead to a sudden increase in your blood glucose levels. Use the medicine strictly according to the dose and duration the doctor advises. Never stop taking any medicine without consulting your doctor.
Can EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet be used with other diabetes medicines?
Yes, EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet can be used alone or with other diabetes medicines. However, a proper diet and exercise should be followed along with medicines.
Can the use of EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet cause hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar levels)?
EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet does not cause very low blood sugar on its own. However, watch out for hypoglycemia if it is taken along with other diabetes medicines such as insulin, sulfonylurea, or meglitinides.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
- EMPAGlyn 25 Tablet may cause your body to lose too much fluid (dehydration), or you may urinate more often. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
- It may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or if you delay or miss a meal.
- Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremors, and anxiety.
- It can cause genital fungal and/or urinary tract infections (UTIs) in females and males, so practice good hygiene.
- Monitor your blood sugar regularly while taking this medicine.
- Inform your doctor immediately if you experience constant dizziness, joint pain, cold-like symptoms, or unexplained nausea/vomiting.
