Cefixime (50mg)
Draxime PS 50mg Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children, including ear, eye, nose, throat, lung, skin, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract infections, as well as uncomplicated typhoid fever.
Oral Suspension
Draxime PS 50mg Oral Suspension is best given an hour before or two hours after meals as that ensures better absorption. In case your child develops a stomach upset, prefer giving it with meals. The dose and duration depend upon the type and severity of the infection, so stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of the intake, give the same dose again but do not double dose if it's the time for the next dose. Do not give this medicine to your child in case of cold and flu symptoms as they are usually caused by viruses and antibiotics don’t treat viral infections. Doctors prescribe this medicine for cough and cold only when they detect any underlying secondary bacterial infection.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Draxime PS 50mg Oral Suspension may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Draxime PS 50mg Oral Suspension is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. By doing so, this medicine stops the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading without making them resistant to further treatment.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Give this medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Only give Draxime PS 50mg Oral Suspension to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child’s doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine.
Giving an extra dose of Draxime PS 50mg Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause significant harm. If you believe your child has taken more than the prescribed amount, contact a doctor immediately. Overdose may lead to unwanted side effects and potentially worsen your child's condition.
Serious side effects of this medicine include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergic reactions, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Consult your child's doctor for help in these situations.
Draxime PS 50mg Oral Suspension may interact with other medicines or substances. Always inform your child's doctor about all medications they are currently taking before starting this treatment. They can advise on potential interactions and the best course of action.
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with vaccines or cause a reaction in children who have just received one. However, before starting any new medication or vaccinations, consult your doctor for personalized advice. Once your child feels better after the illness, they can be vaccinated.
The doctor might recommend periodic kidney function and liver function tests to monitor your child's condition during long-term treatment.
Yellow or green mucus in the nose is not necessarily a sign that antibiotics are needed. During a typical cold, mucus can thicken and change color from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms usually last for 7-10 days.
Most often, bacterial infections don't follow viral infections. Antibiotics should only be used after consulting with your child’s doctor, and if they are not necessary.
Children's stomachs can be sensitive. While taking antibiotics, some children experience stomach upset due to the treatment. The good bacteria in their gastrointestinal tract might also get affected. This can increase their risk of developing new infections. If your child experiences diarrhea during this time, do not stop the medication course without consulting your doctor. They may suggest adjusting the dosage.
Yes, using antibiotics inappropriately or for extended periods can contribute to resistance. Bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics may re-emerge and become difficult to treat.
Draxime PS 50mg Oral Suspension is typically prescribed for 7-14 days. It's important to complete the full course as advised by your doctor.
