It works by preventing bacteria from dividing and repairing by inhibiting a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and duration, even if symptoms improve. Common side effects include application site irritation and a burning sensation, which are usually temporary. It may also cause short-term blurring of vision when used for eye infections, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Contact lenses should not be worn during treatment.
