Carrol Tablet is a combination of two hormonal medicines used to treat symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) such as excessive hair growth (hirsutism), acne, and irregular periods. It also works as a contraceptive, hence avoid using any other contraceptive pill.
Carrol Tablet is a combination of two hormonal medicines: Cyproterone and Ethinyl Estradiol which treats PCOS symptoms such as acne, excessive hair growth (hirsutism) and irregular periods. Cyproterone works by blocking the overproduction of androgens (male hormones) in the ovaries, thereby reducing unwanted hair growth and acne. Ethinyl Estradiol enhances the effect of Cyproterone by reducing the amount of androgens in the blood. Together, they also regularize the menstrual cycle in PCOS.
What is Carrol Tablet?
Carrol Tablet is a combination medication containing Cyproterone and Ethinyl Estradiol. It is used to treat symptoms associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), such as acne, excessive hair growth (hirsutism), and irregular periods. Cyproterone works by blocking the overproduction of androgens (male hormones) in the ovaries, reducing unwanted hair growth and acne. Ethinyl Estradiol enhances the effect of Cyproterone by decreasing androgen levels in the bloodstream.
How and in what dose should I take Carrol Tablet?
Carrol Tablet must be started on day 1 or 2 of your menstrual cycle. The dosage is prescribed by your doctor. It's recommended to take the medication at the same time each day for consistent medication levels in your body.
What if I miss a dose of Carrol Tablet?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If more than 12 hours have passed since the missed dose, do not take it and simply continue with your usual dosage schedule. However, to prevent pregnancy, use a non-hormonal birth control method (like condoms) during this cycle.
What if I vomit after taking Carrol Tablet for a few hours?
If you experience vomiting within 3-4 hours of taking the tablet, repeat the dose.
Does Carrol Tablet also work as a contraceptive?
Yes, if taken properly, Carrol Tablet acts as an effective form of contraception. However, discontinue using any other type of birth control pill while taking Carrol Tablet.
What are the common side effects of taking Carrol Tablet?
Common side effects associated with Carrol Tablet include nausea, stomach pain, increased weight, headache, mood changes, and breast pain. Most of these symptoms are temporary but if they persist, please consult your doctor as soon as possible.
How long will Carrol Tablet take to reduce acne?
You should begin to notice improvements within 3-4 weeks. However, completing the full course of treatment is essential to fully benefit from it. Inform your doctor if your acne does not improve after finishing the full course.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Carrol Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
- Take your pill at the same time every day to help you remember to take it.
- Do not use Carrol Tablet if you are obese, over 50, smoke, on prolonged bed rest or have a history of blood clots.
- Stop taking it and inform your doctor if you notice unexplained swelling and pain in your limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain or changes in vision.
- You may experience vaginal spotting (blood stain) or breakthrough bleeding while taking Carrol Tablet. This is temporary. Inform your doctor if it lasts longer.
- If your period fails to come within a week after completing your course, do not start the next course before consulting your doctor.
- It works as a contraceptive. So, do not use any additional hormonal contraceptives when using this medicine.
Alcohol
Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Carrol Tablet. Please consult your doctor.
Breastfeed
Carrol Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Pregnancy
Carrol Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy. Seek your doctor's advice as studies on pregnant women and animals have shown significant harmful effects to the developing baby.
